Solidarity action against COVID-19: First batch of medicines for intubation arrives in Brazil
Pool of companies donating a total of 3.4 million supplies to support ICU patients
The first batch of medicines for intubation, with 2.3 million units - out of a total of 3.4 million -, arrives today at Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo. The initiative is a joint effort from a group of companies that came together to respond to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil and the consequent shortage of supplies to care for ICU patients. All the medicines will be donated to the Ministry of Health in a quantity enough to manage 500 beds for a period of one and a half months. This solidarity action, on an emergency basis, has the engagement and support of ENGIE, Itaú Unibanco, Klabin, Petrobras, Raízen and TAG, in addition to Vale, which mobilized this partnership three weeks ago.
We expect that by the end of this month all of the medicines (sedatives, muscle neuroblocks and opioid analgesics - basic items to make and keep patients intubated) will be fully donated to the federal government, which will also take care of the distribution by the States through the Single Health System (SUS). The items, which were purchased in China, have import authorization issued by Anvisa, in addition to certification by the Chinese agency.
