As part of a collaboration with Persatuan Jalinan Usahasama Masyarakat Manjung, Vale curated festive food packages this year worth a total RM30,000 for 200 socioeconomically vulnerable families, incorporating a combination of essentials and delights synonymous with the festive period such as rice, dry pan mee, pure sesame oil, ginseng chicken herbal soup, and fish sauce, among others, to liven up celebrations for the families to usher in the New Year.

Leonardo Paiva, CEO of Vale in Malaysia said: “The first day in the Chinese Lunar calendar is an important occasion that marks a new chapter and journey of growth, strengthening of ties and sharing of blessings and prosperity. Recognizing the importance of this occasion, we hope the provision of care packages will spread festive joy and help families in the community welcome the New Year with an extra special celebration made even more meaningful with hearty meals and great company with loved ones, neighbours and friends.”

Kampung Koh, Sitiawan, is situated near to Vale’s Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT) which represents its main iron ore distribution hub in Asia.

“Over the years, we are honoured to be able to partner alongside community leaders to assist the community during various festivities. The challenging situation faced by some families can put a damper on festive celebrations. We hope contributions can help to ease their burden while enabling them to have a more joyful celebration in keeping up with festive traditions. For Chinese New Year, we are humbled to make our contribution to the community at Kampung Koh, one of the original villages in the Sitiawan settlement, which has showed us the enduring community spirit of unity and camaraderie that contributes significantly to the cultural dynamism and social fabric of Manjung,” added Leonardo.

The initiative is an extension of the 'Vale Bersama Manjung’, a socioeconomic assistance programme incepted since the early days of the pandemic. It aims at supporting those in need through financial assistance and various education and upskilling programmes to enhance the community’s socioeconomic growth and wellbeing. Thus far, Vale has contributed close to RM2 million to this initiative which is geared towards holistic community development.
