Vale Base Metals Exploration is dedicated to generating value by leveraging our global exploration expertise towards viable copper and nickel discoveries and advancing mineral projects. Carajás, Pará, Brazil​

Vale Base Metals Exploration is active in the Carajás mineral province, one of the most endowed districts in the world, hosting several world-class IOCG-type Cu-Au deposits such as Salobo and Sossego.
Exploration efforts are focused on the discovery and development of the next generation of copper deposits to support Vale Base Metals’ copper growth strategy and the global energy transition. ​

Peru

Vale Base Metals, through its Vale Exploration Peru subsidiary, is one of the largest mineral rights holders in the country with a vast property portfolio in some of the most prospective and sought-after regions of Peru.
Exploration efforts are focused on the discovery of large-scale copper deposits.

Chile

Vale Base Metals, through its Vale Exploraciones Chile subsidiary, is active in some of the most prospective and productive belts of Chile which is the largest copper producer and holder of copper reserves in the world.

Sudbury, Ontario, Canada​

The Sudbury Igneous Complex, believed to be the result of a meteorite impact 1.85Ga years ago, hosts world-class Ni-Cu-Co-Pt-Pd-Au sulfide deposits.
Vale Base Metals holds an extensive land package with significant potential for new discoveries and resource additions in or near existing mining operations at Coleman, Copper Cliff, Creighton, Garson and Totten mines. ​

Thompson, Manitoba, Canada​

The Thompson Nickel Belt (TNB) hosts disseminated and massive Ni-Co sulfide ores and represents one of the principal nickel camps in Canada.

Vale Base Metals Exploration has been exploring the TNB for well over 70 years with a renewed focus on the discovery and development of new orebodies near existing infrastructure at T1 and T3 mines, as well as regionally.​

Voisey’s Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada​

Exploration at Voisey’s Bay is focused on extending mineral resources and reserves near Discovery Hill and at the newly built Eastern Deeps and Reid Brook underground mines.
Vale Base Metals also conducts regional exploration on its extensive and highly prospective land package towards the discovery of the next generation of Ni-Cu-Co deposits. ​

Indonesia

PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) is a privately-owned joint venture between Vale’s subsidiary Eastern Star Resources Pty Ltd. and PT Antam Tbk.
STM is exploring the Hu’u district with the objective to expand Indonesia’s copper reserves at and near the Onto Deposit, considered one of the most significant copper discoveries of the last 20 years.​
