Vale Brazil

We started our operations in 1942, in Itabira, Minas Gerais. Since then, we have come a long way to become one of the largest mining companies in the world. In Brazil, we operate not only in the mining sector, but also in logistics –with railways and ports – in the generation of energy to supply part of the operational demand, in the steel industry and in various social, cultural and environmental projects through the Vale Cultural Institute, the Vale Foundation, the Vale Fund, the Vale Institute of Technology, among others.

Do you want to know more about our history? Visit Espaço Memória and discover various curiosities and milestones that led us here.

Where are we?

What do we do?

Mining

In Brazil, we work with iron ore and pellets, nickel, manganese and ferroalloys and copper. In the southeast of Pará, we have the largest mining complex in Vale's history, the S11D Eliezer Batista.

Logistics

We have a vast logistics infrastructure in the country, operating ports and railways. Our rail network includes two long-distance passenger trains.

Energy

We have an energy generation portfolio comprising three of our own small hydroelectric plants (SHPs) and are present in the consortia of three hydroelectric plants and two generation companies.

Steel industry

We have a stake in Companhia Siderúrgica de Pecém (CSP), the first steel slab plant in the Brazilian Northeast.

In addition to operations

One of our values is to “make it happen” and we know that this is not limited to our spaces. For this reason, we are constantly investing in the communities in which we operate, contributing to various topics.

One of our biggest commitments is to the Amazon rainforest, where we have been helping to preserve around 800,000 hectares for 30 years.

In cultural terms, we support projects spread throughout Brazil through the Vale Cultural Institute, such as Vale Música – which has existed for more than two decades – and we contribute to the management of museums and cultural spaces.

With the Vale Foundation, we contribute to the social development of the territories where we operate, by supporting education, promoting basic health, assuring rights and promoting social business transactions.

Thus, we improve life and transform the future. Together.
