Welcome to the MINE 2.0 Program
Our goal is to invite the external public to contribute to overcoming world obstacles, forming agents of change, capable of helping us to build the mining of the future, safer, cleaner and more efficient and a more sustainable environment.
In MINE 2.0 (Mining Innovation for a New Environment), you will be able to solve challenges of all our productive chain, in the areas of decarbonization, circular economy and health and safety.
With this, we seek to offer a transformational impact in the members' lives, from an environment of intense collaboration and networking, training and developing the participants professionally.
We believe in innovation as the key to this transformation and that is why we selected 10 challenges from Vale, to be solved by 30 external participants in collaboration with MIT Professional Education and MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative and also, our Partners SENAI CIMATEC and The Bakery. The program consists of technical content, mentoring, lectures, discussions, project design and development.
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, are driven by innovation and want to have a real impact on the world, in addition to helping us build a new mining, this is your place!

The challenges of the MINE 2.0 Program are divided into three pillars of knowledge, selected for their strategic importance and relevance to humanity. We believe in the potential to generate a positive impact of innovation to contribute to the mining of the future.
Find out more about each of the themes below:
Decarbonization
The challenges of this theme are aligned with our commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 33% by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. This goal is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. In addition to neutralizing its scopes 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2050, Vale has the goal of reducing net scope 3 emissions by 15%, related to its supply chain and customers, by 2035.
Circular Economy
We want to accelerate sustainable development and find new applications for reusing sandy iron ore tailings. The challenges in this theme aim to reframe mining tailings as a raw material for other industries, through production processes capable of using tailings as inputs in the creation of high added value products. In this way, we foster the circular economy and generate value for all involved.
Health & Safety
Connected with the mission, vision, values, our key behaviors and strategy, we want to minimize risks and preserve lives and the environment, since for us, life is more important than production. In this theme, we select challenges that seek to apply innovation and technology to promote health and safety, placing the lives of our employees, communities, partners and society in general first.
