Tilted Plate Settler (TPS) in Water Treatment Systems

Within PT Vale Indonesia Tbk’s operations, water is a crucial element in the production process. Effluents produced need to be treated in such a way to reduce the pollutant concentration. This includes pollutants such as  Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and hexavalent chromium (Cr6+). One of the key challenges the company faces is to responsibly manage this wastewater, with the aim of minimizing water pollution through a dedicated program.

In overcoming these challenges, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk is committed to implementing advanced wastewater treatment technology, such as the innovative Counter-current Tilted Plate Settler (TPS) or other term Lamella gravity settler (LGS) in the Mine Runoff Water Treatment System. TPS is the only waste processing installation implemented in mineral mining companies. TPS is an installation for drinking water treatment, where there is mixing of waste water with ferrous sulfate, coagulation and flocculation units, as well as sedimentation equipped with a plate settler. By utilizing state-of-the-art solutions and adhering to strict environmental regulations, the company aims to effectively manage and treat wastewater, ensuring a sustainable approach to mining operations and maintaining the integrity of local water sources.
Implementation of the program in second quartal of 2023 has succeeded in reducing the burden of water pollution of TSS by 210.95 tonnes, and Cr3+ by 0.31 tonnes.
