Our commitment in post-mining rehabilitation

We conduct open-pit mining activities that have an impact on altering the natural landscape, thus affecting the ecosystem and biodiversity within it. Our initiatives and commitment in post-mining rehabilitation included in our Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Policy and Sustainability Policy.

We carrying out reclamation as part of our Mine Closure Plan, in accordance with Indonesia Government Regulation No. 78 of 2010 on Reclamation and Post-Mining.

Post-Mining Land Reclamation and Rehabilitation Process

Our earnestness in land rehabilitation starts from the land clearing phase by limiting the total area of open-pit mining. Our mine planning is integrated with land rehabilitation, as well as effluent and sedimentation control.

Post-mining land rehabilitation is conducted through a backfilling system, using topsoil and other soil layers from the land stripping process. The stages include reshaping the land surface to meet standard slope requirements, returning topsoil and soil layers, controlling erosion, constructing drainage systems, building access roads for revegetation, reforestation, plant maintenance, and monitoring the success of the rehabilitation.

Transboundary forestation

We engage in land rehabilitation and reforestation beyond our operation areas, particularly in critical lands and watersheds as mandated by Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 59 of 2019 regarding Planting for Watershed Rehabilitation.

The watershed rehabilitation activities aim to restore, maintain, and enhance watershed functions, including environmental conservation, by planting various types of timber and non-timber forest products (NTFPs) according to site suitability. Furthermore, watershed rehabilitation activities can improve the welfare of communities living around the forest by promoting sustainable forest management practices.

Reclamation report

Periodically we report environmental performance and issues through reports on the Environmental Management Plan/Environmental Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL), the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Electronic Reporting Information System (SIMPEL-KLHK), and reclamation reports according to the timetable set out in government regulations.

Post-mining closure

Our Mine Closure Plan (RPT) document has been updated in 2022, prepared based on the Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL), and has been communicated to all stakeholders. This RPT covers the entire mining operational area in the Sorowako Block. We have placed mine closure guarantee. In addition, reclamation and rehabilitation is supported by the allocation of financial provisions included in the environmental cost component in the company’s financial statements.

Land Reclamation and Rehabilitation in Numbers

Target and Achievement

We are committed to progressively reclaiming 70% of ex-mining land by 2025.

By 2022, the total land that has been reclaimed has reached 3,703.6 Ha, with a total of 4.1 million trees.
