Vale delivers aidilfitri assistance to Manjung communities

200 families received aid in preparation of Hari Raya celebrations

Vale, one of the world’s leading mining companies, distributed MYR40,000 worth of Hari Raya Aidilfitri food aid to various communities in Manjung today.

The initiative, which benefits 200 socioeconomically vulnerable families, is a continuation of the company’s flagship MYR2.0 million ‘Vale Bersama Manjung’ community assistance programme, which started during the early days of the pandemic in 2020. To ensure the effectiveness in the delivery of the festive food aid programme, Vale collaborated closely with local community chiefs in Lekir, Beruas, Pengkalan Baharu and Pangkor to identify the families most in need in various locations in the district.

Leonardo Paiva, CEO of Vale in Malaysia said: “We hope the distribution of the festive food packages will assist these 200 families, as they prepare for a joyous Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. Ramadan is the month of reflection for us at Vale in Malaysia, as it evokes the spirit of giving, and we are happy to be able to manifest this value today with various communities in Manjung.”

Recipients of the programme received specially curated Hari Raya packages, consisting of essential food items, and festive cooking and baking ingredients to prepare a traditional feast for their families.

Since its arrival in Malaysia over a decade ago, Vale has invested over MYR65 million on various social development initiatives in the Manjung district. The company remains as Perak’s single largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), employing a workforce that comprises over 90 percent Perakians in its Asia Pacific iron ore distribution hub in Teluk Rubiah.

“The communities of Manjung are important to us, and we are committed to fostering inclusive community development in the district, through concerted social initiatives and opportunity creation. As we do this, it is important for us to ensure that the positive impact of our operations in Malaysia will be felt by the underprivileged segments of the society as well. No community should be left behind,” Leonardo concluded.
